FAssets

An educational overview of FAssets — representations within the Flare networks that let external assets be used inside Flare applications.

What an FAsset is

An FAsset is a representation, within the Flare networks, that lets an external asset be used inside Flare applications in a decentralised way. The “F” signals that it is a Flare-native representation.

This is a Flare-specific concept, so it is worth studying on its own once the general foundations are clear.

Why representations are useful

Representations make it possible for applications on one system to work with something that originates elsewhere, without that thing having to leave its own environment. This is closely tied to the broader theme of interoperability.

A specific example often mentioned is FXRP, which is one particular FAsset used within the Flare networks.

Study tip

Approach FAssets after you are comfortable with interoperability and the data protocols. Once those ideas click, FAssets read as a natural application of them within the Flare networks.
